Wallace Howse joined the Kiwanis Club of St. John's on March 18, 1966, and shortly thereafter, in 1968, he became a Director of the Kiwanis Music Festival Association of St. John's. He went on to serve on the Festival Board for a total of seventeen (17) years, during which time he held a wide variety of positions and responsibilities.

At various times he was Chairman of the Patrons Committee, the Advertising Committee, the Staffing Committee, and the Adjudicators Committee; as well as lending significant contribution to the Concerts Committee. He served as the Festival's 1st Vice- President, 2nd Vice-President, and eventually its President, in 1973 -1974.
In addition to the considerable amount of personal time and effort expended, Wallace was also a significant contributor to the Festival in a more material way. As both a Patron and a Scholarship donor over a period of many years, Wallace was also a very important financial benefactor of the Kiwanis Music Festival. Attendees at Kiwanis Music Festival Concerts, which were, in the early years, gala events much anticipated by the city's music lovers, will remember the glorious floral bouquets which adorned the stage of the Arts and Culture Centre - compliments of Wallace's "Howse of Flowers".
Wallace was also active on behalf of music festivals on the provincial scene. He served on the Executive of the Newfoundland Federation of Music Festivals, and, in 1978 - 1979, he served as the President of that umbrella organization.
It is because of the efforts and interest of Kiwanians like Wallace Howse that the Kiwanis Music Festival of St. John's has matured to become the major contributor to the music scene in this province that it has. He was a nurturer and a builder in the true sense of the word, and the Association of which he was an integral part is now pleased to induct him into its HALL OF HONOUR in the Builder Category.
